At RCA, we believe that learning outside the classroom greatly enhances the learning experience. Teachers often schedule field trips for individual classes which supplement the curriculum. Grade-level trips are offered beginning in the 6th grade for classes where interest warrants.
6th-grade - Camp Cosby
Camp Cosby’s Outdoor Classroom provides residential programs offering hands-on experiential education in a wide variety of topics, including: Forest Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, Plant Ecology, Water Ecology, Outdoor Skills, Teambuilding, and Living History. With over 25 classes correlating to the Alabama Course of Study, teachers from the 4th – 8th grades have a multitude of options to enhance what they have been studying in the classroom, as well as providing learning opportunities that are unavailable in the classroom. Located in Alpine, Alabama (approximately 15 miles west of Talladega) with 137 acres and 2 ½ miles of lakefront, Camp Cosby is an ideal location for schools to visit from throughout the state as well as Georgia and Tennessee.
8th-grade - Washington, D.C.
10th-grade - Creation Museum, Ohio
The state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings.
The area within the museum has been divided into unusually configured spaces that allow for personal interaction with each of the 160 exhibits. Several parts of the museum, including the stunning forty-foot high portico with its cliff wall and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, flaunt open spaces and remarkable designs.
The themes of the exhibits resound in the theater presentations: Men in White, Six Days of Creation, The Last Adam, and Dinosaurs and Dragons. The Special Effects Theater, complete with rumbling seats and rising mists, takes visitors on a fantastic quest to find the real purpose and meaning of life.
12th grade - Mission Trip
Each Senior class is given the opportunity to select a mission trip to be taken at the conclusion of its senior year. Trips last 4-7 days and range from continental to international in nature. The trip provides students an opporunity to place their faith in action while serving others.
